Ground Level
There are several birds which tend to skulk around in the undergrowth. One of the commonest birds of the Reserve is the Dark-necked Tailorbird. One bird which lives right on the forest floor is the Short-tailed Babbler, whose long legs and short tail fit in well with life in the life-litter.

Mid-forest Level
Looking up a little from the undergrowth you are almost certain to find Singapore's commonest babbler the Stripe-throated Tit-babbler. One bird found in the lower to the middle levels of the forest which will eat fruits is the Olive-winged Bulbul. The other one most often seen is the Yellow-vented Bulbul. Another Bulbul worth looking for is the Cream-vented Bulbul.

Canopy Level
Looking a little higher into the canopy even the most unobservant visitor cannot fail to see Greater-Racket-tailed Drongo, a  large black bird with a metallic sheen to its plumage.
